In-School & Out-of-School History Education Program
|
Started in the spring of 2007, this interactive, historic program
tours to schools around the Boston area. Two actors take on
multiple roles to bring the stories of the Boston Massacre,
the Tea Party, and Paul Revere's midnight ride to life! The
one-hour presentation covers the major events of the Revolution
in Boston, including several subjects required for the history
curriculum, as outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
A question and answer session for the students follows the presentation.
The program is tailored to appeal to the class regardless of
age or experience. Teachers can also request a lesson plan to
supplement the program. By engaging the students in a dramatic
way, the program helps children LEARN and REMEMBER the events
and leaders of the American Revolution.

In the spring of 2007, we presented the program in 11 schools
for 452 students! The response and enthusiasm for the program
was amazing and exceeded our expectations. And already for the
2007-2008 school year, the Foundation has plans to bring the
program to over 700 new students! Some teachers who have
already seen the program have commented:

"The students learned a lot of information while being
thoroughly entertained!"
Kelly Donohue, 5th grade teacher, Roger Clap Elementary

|
"The students barely blinked during the presentation!
Anyone studying the Revolution would benefit from this program.
History came to life! Keep us on the list for next year!
Cheryl O'Connor, 5th grade teacher,
William E. Russell Elementary

"Judith and Josh (the actors) are entertaining and well
informed. They didn't just tell - they interacted and responded
to "in the moment" variables. Kudos!! Well done -
Huzzah!!!"
Pam Bator, 3rd grade teacher, Weston Elementary
"The program goes beyond the textbook and tells information
that is deeper and told from more than one viewpoint."
Shastin Garland, 3rd grade teacher, Foster Elementary School
"The program helped the students become more interested
in the American Revolution. It is also a good review for the
MCAs. My students learned so much today. It's one thing to read
about these events, but to have them acted out and brought to
life helped them to better comprehend and become more engaged.
Honestly, I felt the performance and the performers were excellent."
Molanda McCollum, 5th grade, Lucy Stone School
